Q: I heard you say the goal of meditation is NOT to empty the mind, but what are we supposed to do with our thoughts during meditation? 

A: The purpose of meditation is not to empty the mind. Awareness of thoughts is necessary, but your focus during meditation should be on the technique. 

The mind is active, and that is natural. Thoughts should be allowed to come and go while maintaining focus. Focus is the key to stability; it strengthens your system.
